There’s a project in the NFT space called goopdoods. They look something like this:
The cheapest one of these is ~$1,000 or 0.34 Eth at the time of this writing.
“TPan, this is exactly why NFTs are going to 0.” Ya I get it, but let’s explore some of the factors that brought this project to this point, and potentially even further.
The community is diehard, the art is unique, and the word ‘goop’ has high virality potential.

@danielgothits, a NFT Twitter influencer, took action on a suggestion to start a Twitter Spaces on a whim (for those unfamiliar, similar to a Clubhouse Room) where you can literally only say the word “goop”.
This was not a part of a some pre-meditated marketing plan, had 0 budget, and happened on a whim.
And meditate they did…

Again…no planning, a small influencer account kickstarting it, participation from a hardcore community, and a lot of curious listeners.
This went viral in the Crypto NFT space on a Thursday evening and everyone started tweeting about it. Not only that but the replies and memes about this project fueled it further.
And they did another meditation on Friday.
With “goop”ified Rick Astley lyrics as a bonus
This movement was trending to the point where Newsweek caught wind of it and wrote about it.
“TPan, I think my IQ dropped a couple points, I’m unsubscribing.”
Alright, alright let’s gain those IQ points back. Here’s some takeaways:
What is YOUR ‘goop‘? What is YOUR COMPANY’S ‘goop’? Is there a brand where you would participate in something considered silly for 99.999% of the world, but you would be passionate about? Does your company or brand have a user base that would participate in something as crazy as this? If yes, there may be something special there when it comes to brand loyalty and community building.
If you’re in B2C, have fun with your brand. The goop meditations piqued my interest, but what I found just as fascinating were the ways that the community quickly memeified the project name. I’ll stick with the written examples, but the goopdude community inserted themselves into our everyday lexicon in a brilliant way. ‘goop morning’, ‘goop night’, ‘goop for you’, ‘goopbob gooppants’, ‘deja goop’. You know what words are being replaced in those phrases. The list goes on. The goopdudes project let the community run with these ideas, and they will keep innovating in their unique way.
Give them an inch, they’ll give you a mile. Flipping the saying on its head, the project provided the canvas, and the community is painting with all types of mediums.
